<div itemprop="description"><br />Albert &quot;Al&quot; Rietze passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Aug. 21, 2014, at the age of 86. <br /> <br />Born in Winkler, Manitoba, Al moved his family to Calgary in 1959, and was an active and prominent member of several communities, as well as of the Grace Lutheran Church. Al began his career in the trucking business, after which he had a lengthy career in the auto glass industry with Trans Canada Glass. After his retirement in 1993, he turned his passion for building and carpentry into his small home renovation company, Al Rietze Enterprises. Al coached hockey, baseball and fastball, loved to curl and golf, loved his weekends spent at the Rietze Retreat at Tall Timbers in Sundre, always enjoyed vacations in Las Vegas, but his pride and joy was his family. <br /> <br />He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; his children Gary (Rita) Rietze, Don Rietze, Wes (Lynnette) Rietze, Darla (Dan) Knock, JoAnne Peterson, Lindsay (Danette) Rietze, Lyle (Connie) Rietze, and Brad Rietze; brother Howard (Betty Ann) Rietze; sister-in-law Ann Rietze; 22 grandchildren: Hope Matthews and Tyler Rietze, Erin and Dayna Rietze, Mandy and Megan Rietze, Darcy (Amanda) Knock, Pam (Dustin) Tremblay, Kelsey (Alfie) Johnson, Sam, Chris, and Cassandra Burke, Jamie and Kyle Peterson, Zach and Jacob Rietze, Lena Rietze, Kyle (Kylie), Spencer and Brody Rietze, and Blain and Katie McInnes; 8 great-grandchildren: Kaylin, Logan and Zayne Knock, Reese and Ben Tremblay, Riley and Alexa Burke, and Jax Rietze; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and in-laws. <br /> <br />He was predeceased by his parents, Rheinold and Tien Rietze; brothers Fred and Laverne Rietze; sister-in-law Eleanor Rietze; nephews Greg Rietze and Johannes Reinhold Rietze; and granddaughter Brittney McInnes. <br /> <br />The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Unit 44 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, as well as a special thank-you to Dr. Louw and the staff of Unit 52 for their exceptional care and compassion during Al&rsquo;s time there. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation. <br /> <br />Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (3610 Sarcee Road SW, Calgary, AB) at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 27.
