<div itemprop="description">BARR, Joanna Marie (nee Damsgard)<br /><br />Joanna Marie Barr passed away peacefully at MacKenzie Care Centre in Calgary on January 8, 2016 at the age of 88 years. <br /><br />She is survived by her sister Frances (Wendell) Opheim of Lethbridge; nieces: Wanda Opheim (Ken Yurkovich) of Calgary, Karen (Tom) Schmitz of Ontario; nephews: Eric (Carol) Dieter, Miles Dieter of Calgary and Phil Dieter of Hanna. <br /><br />Joanna was born in Olds to Joseph and Cora Damsgard. At an early age she lived in Brooks and Lanfine before moving to Chinook, Alberta where she received her High School education. Following High School, she attended Calgary Normal School and became a teacher in Calgary for many years. After retiring from teaching she worked in a dress shop which she enjoyed very much as she loved clothes. <br /><br />She is predeceased by her parents, brother John Damsgard and sister Evelyn Dieter. <br /><br />The family is thankful for the skilled and loving care provided by MacKenzie Care Centre. At this time we also want to thank Herb and Ida who were companions to Joanna for thirteen years. They were her best friends for all that time. <br /><br />Memorial donations in Joanna&rsquo;s memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society of Calgary (#201, 222-58 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB, T2H 2S3). <br /><br />Private Family services were held. <br /><br />To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca. <br /></div>
