November 18, 1922 Standard, Alberta
February 27, 2017 Strathmore, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce that our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Kitty Jensen has passed away. She is survived by her children: Fran at Medicine Hat, Gail Pollock (Barry) at Calgary, Don (Barbara) at Cupar, Saskatchewan, and Joanne Petersen (Dean) at Standard; grandchildren Allison (Adam), Lauren, Micaela, Stephen (Mirella), Wyatt and Lindsay; and great grandchildren Isla, Finnley and Kellen. Kitty was predeceased by daughter Bernice in 1990, husband Andy in 1994 and grandson Marcus in 2005, and by her sister and two brothers.

Mom was born in Standard, Alberta, graduated high school in Kamloops, BC, and completed domestic training in Calgary thereafter. She worked in various jobs until she married Andy in late 1942 and moved to the farm at Gleichen. She enjoyed her life with Andy and the kids, and participated in various community organizations, including Gleichen Home and School, Standard Order of the Eastern Star, Gleichen-Standard 4-H Beef Club, Meadowbrook Community Hall Board, and Strathmore Lutheran Church. Commencing in 1967 Mom and Dad started their winter habit of spending a few weeks most winters in Hawaii and that continued until the late 1980s. She and Andy retired to Strathmore in 1980 and enjoyed the social and organizational activities as well as more rounds of golf at Strathmore Golf Club. Her grandchildren were especially treasured and the great grandchildren always drew a lively response from her.

Mom was a sharp and incisive thinker, a diligent and hard worker and an avid reader, including the English Literature book lists of our university courses. Mastering new hobbies kept her thinking and growing. She inherited a strong moral compass from her parents and passed it on to her children.

Thank you to the Sagewood Eagle Lake staff for their conscientious and tender care of Mom during her life there and especially in the final days.

A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore. In recognition of her passing, memorial donations may be made to Lord of All Lutheran Church, 112 Lakeside Boulevard, Strathmore, Alberta, T1P 1A1.
