<div itemprop="description">It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Anup Kamal Chaudhuri on December 13, 2016, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 79 years. <br><br>Anup is survived by his loving wife of more than 41 years, Caroline; daughter Sharmilla (Jason Tymchen); son Arun (Preethy Sivakumar); and granddaughter Kavya Sivakumar Chaudhuri. Anup will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Arup and his sister Rina Das. <br><br>He was predeceased by his father and mother Ranade and Sheefali Chaudhuri.&nbsp; <br><br>Anup attended the University of Calcutta where he graduated from the School of Medicine. After completing fellowships in New York State, Anup and his family moved to Thunder Bay in 1979.&nbsp; Anup practiced medicine, specializing in Neurosurgery, in Thunder Bay from 1979 to 2004. He will be remembered for his longstanding medical service to Thunder Bay and the communities of Northwestern Ontario. <br><br>Anup’s many professional recognitions included the distinction of Emeritus Status by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario in 2010, receiving the Regional Award for Distinguished Service to Community & Professional Excellence by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1998, as well as the Glen Sawyer Award for Professional Excellence & Service to the Community, by the Ontario Medical Association in 2003. <br><br>Outside his medical practice, Anup was an avid film-watcher, cricket fan, and reader, often immersed in Indian newspapers, mystery novels and political history books. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Crow Lake, Nestor Falls.&nbsp; <br><br>A Memorial Service will be held in Thunder Bay at a later time. <br><br>In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Neurosurgical Unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation. <br><br>To express condolences, please visit www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.<br></div>
