It is with sadness that the family of Ella Krauss announces she passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years.

Christened Eleonora she was always known as Ella and was born and grew up on a farm near Mazenod, SK in a family that included three brothers and four sisters. She attended Luther College in Regina and after Grade 12, went on to secretarial school in 1937. She worked at Luther College as a secretary and assistant dean. Ella sang in choirs and was a soloist at weddings and funerals and various other occasions. In June 1944, she married John Krauss, also of Mazenod and as newly-weds they moved to Windsor ON. They then returned to their roots in Saskatchewan and moved to Smiley, SK in 1957 when John started work with Imperial Oil. They transferred to Swan Hills in 1973 with Imperial and eventually settled in Calgary to be closer to the children. Ella worked for Imperial for 10 years and in 1983 she and John both retired and became active participants in the Esso Annuitants Club. Ella was also a great cook and was famous for making pickles, jams and buns which the grandkids affectionately called “Grandma jam” and “Grandma buns”. She was active all her life and even in her advanced years liked to get outside for a walk. Ella faithfully read the newspaper every day and always said she liked to read the sports news because it was happy news. She knew all about hockey players and trades and while she was a Flames fan, she really liked #99. She could also be seen watching BNN at the end of the day to see the closing stock market price of her Esso shares.

John passed away in 2003.

Ella is survived by her children Mark (Joan), Laurie Koloski (Mike), Randy (Pat), grandsons Greg (Angela), Trevor (Melissa), Jeff Koloski (Joanna), Curtis Koloski and Brett Krauss and by five great grandchildren Logan, Brayden, Harrison, Hunter and Annalina all of Calgary, AB.
