<div itemprop="description">Irene Wickenheiser, beloved wife of John (Johanes) passed away peacefully at Sagewood Nursing home in Strathmore, Alberta, on October 5, 2016, just short of her 89th birthday.&nbsp; <br><br>Born at home in Masefield Saskatchewan, Irene was the second child of nine to Anton and Margaret Glas.<br><br>Irene leaves behind her sisters Kay, Adeline, Leona and Rose, brothers Albert, Don, and Ron to morn her passing. Irene was the loving mother of Gaileen (Ron), Linda&nbsp; (Norm) (Ray), Carol (Ken), Brian “Dick” (Margrethe), Mike (Brenda), Darrell, Brenda and Darcy.&nbsp; She also had 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. PS GRANDMA WE LOVE YOU! from all your grandchildren.<br><br>Irene's life was marked by hard times of depression and the stress of World War II. Irene married John in 1946 and they homesteaded a farm at Hays, Alberta.&nbsp; They created their loving family of 8 in Hays. In 1968 the family moved from the farm to Calgary to take employment. Irene was employed at K Mart for 13 years and took great pride in her work there. She was a devoted Catholic, attended mass frequently and sang in the church choir.&nbsp; Irene's keen interest of gardening and canning benefitted the entire family and brought her great joy of giving. Her love for her family was always unconditional, her kindness unsurpassed. She will sorely be missed by all.&nbsp;<br><br>Irene was predeceased by her husband John, sister Delores, daughter Gaileen, and sons in law Norm and Ray. The family would like to thank the staff at Sagewood Nursing home for 4 years of very compassionate and loving care they showed our mother. <br><br>Memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation 119 14 Street NW #200, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 or www.heartandstroke.ab.ca or a charity of your choice in her name. <br><br>Prayers will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church (5552 Madigan Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 7:00 pm.&nbsp;Funeral Mass will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 11:30 am at St. Marks Catholic Church.</div>
