SODERBERG, Agnes “Jean”

Agnes Jean Soderberg passed away at the Beverly Centre Glenmore, Calgary on March 27, 2017 at the age of 94 years.

Jean was the loving mother of Allan (Wendy) of Caroline, AB, Terry (Valerie) of Calgary, Raymond (Dale) of Cranbrook, BC, Leonard of Calgary and Marlene (Ray) Bryant of Calgary. She will also be dearly missed by her five grandchildren Ryan (Susanne), Darryl (Krista), Jeff (Sherman), Jamie and Jarrod and lovingly remembered by her four great grandchildren Darian, Jaryah, Owen and Linnea. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Carl Fred, in 2009, her sister Bunny and her brother Arnett.

Jean was born in Calgary on February 15, 1923. She was the eldest daughter of Andrew and Ruby Beveridge. As a young girl, Jean enjoyed skating and other outdoor activities. Jean and her sister Bunny spent many happy times together. After high school, Jean attended Henderson Business College. Upon graduation Jean worked for Central Mortgage and Housing. During this time, Jean, Bunny and some of their friends decided to drive to Bragg Creek for the day. Along the way, they experienced a flat tire. As luck would have it, two young men happened to stop to help them. It was two brothers, Fred and Harold Soderberg. After the tire was changed, pleasantries were exchanged. That was the introduction to Jean and Fred’s relationship.

In 1949 Jean and Fred were married and moved to Conrich, AB where their life on the farm began. After raising five children, Jean returned to work as the secretary of Conrich School where she worked for 20 years. While there, Jean formed many friendships with teachers and students until she retired in 1988. Jean always enjoyed her family and particularly liked them to stay for Sunday supper. It was like a drop-in centre where everyone was welcome. Jean’s passion for travel took her to many exotic places around the world. In 2004, Jean and Fred moved to a condo in NE Calgary where she enjoyed her return to city life.

In 2010, Jean moved to the Beverly Centre Glenmore. Jean enjoyed many of the activities offered, especially the music programs where she joined the choir. As her health declined, Jean still enjoyed the entertainment where she always wanted to join in and sing some of the old favorites. She was happy and content at the Beverly Centre and always looked forward to visits from her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Beverly Centre for all their care, compassion and love over the past 7 years.

A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605-100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10:00 am.

To express condolences, please visit www.mountainviewmemorial.ca
