<div itemprop="description">LATTIMER, John Laverne<br><br>It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of John Laverne Lattimer of Calgary, while on vacation in Jackpot, Nevada, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the age of 74 years. John was the beloved husband to Oryshia “Iris” Kereluk Lattimer for 53 years. Loving father to Brent (Kathy) Lattimer of Calgary and Barbara Reade of Smiths Falls, Ontario.&nbsp; Cherished Grandpa to Tyler Reade, Alana Reade, Andrew Lattimer, and Matthew Lattimer. Dear brother and brother in law to Elva Henderson, Gwen and Don Parkinson, Lois Rogers, Sandra Lattimer, Colleen (Alan) Catling, Josephine (Ron) Prentice, Pearl (Vic) Arbour, Mark (Rhea) Lattimer, Verna (Fraser) Mitchell, Cathy Seymour; and uncle to his many nieces, nephews and their families.&nbsp; John was predeceased by his parents Beverly Lattimer and Doris (Hutchinson) Brown, and brothers Grant, Ed, and Tom Lattimer.&nbsp; <br><br>John was born May 21, 1942 in Woodstock, Ontario, and raised in the Embro/Woodstock area. It was in his late teens that he made the decision to move west to Calgary. Upon arriving he worked as a ranch hand at the Copithorne Farm west of Calgary. Shortly afterwards he was hired on by Canadian Pacific Railway where he worked his way up and became a Train Engineer, spending 35 years with them until his retirement in 1996.<br> <br>John met Iris through mutual friends in 1961, and were married in May 1963. He was an active member of the community, volunteering on the executive board, umpiring ball games and coaching hockey. <br><br>John and Iris would often travel to North Dakota where he volunteered at the Martha Hawk Museum. In Austin, Manitoba at the Harvest of Hope, he helped to set the Guinness Book of World Records for the most Antique Thrashing machines running at one time. When he wasn’t volunteering, he loved being outdoors, snowmobiling, camping, fishing at his favorite fly in fishing camp - Brownell , and spending time with family and friends. <br><br>John was the ultimate proud grandpa, spending many hours watching his grandchildren play hockey, baseball and figure skate.<br><br>He will be remembered forever for his kindness, generosity, and warmth.<br><br>At John’s request, cremation has taken place.
