<div itemprop="description">BEHNKE, Karl Heinz <br /> <br />December 21, 1932 - April 8, 2013 <br /> <br />Karl Behnke, beloved husband of Norma Behnke, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary surrounded by his family, on April 8, 2013, at the age of 80 years. He was the loving father of Rick Behnke and daughter-in-law Zuzana Behnke of Oakville, Ontario and daughter Kristina Colangeli and son-in-law Gino Colangeli of Calgary, Alberta. Karl will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Zahnia Behnke, Katrina Behnke, Anthony Colangeli and partner Savannah Crierie, Marc Colangeli, and Michael Colangeli, as well as great-grandchild Dominic Colangeli. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Klaus Behnke and sister-in-law Lia Behnke of Hagen-Haspe, Germany, as well as his nieces Susanna Spielvogel of Vienna, Austria and Andrea Kardinahl of Gutersloh, Germany. He was predeceased by his sister Ursula Kieker. <br /> <br />Karl was born in Haspe, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1956. Having apprenticed and worked as a train engineer in Germany, Karl built a career in the structural steel industry in Canada, working for much of his career as a draftsman in Montreal. After moving to Calgary in 1978, Karl employed his structural steel experience in the energy equipment &amp; services business as a plant manager overseeing the production of pumpjacks until he retired in 1991. In retirement, Karl put his mechanical abilities to work lovingly renovating his home and preparing and equipping his truck and travel trailer for the many camping trips he and Norma took together with family and friends. But most of all, Karl loved being with his family, sharing his warm heart, kind words of encouragement, and great sense of humor. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Unit 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary AB T2E 2P5. <br /> <br /></div>
