Himmelman (Filipionek), Margaret “Peggy”

Born April 7, 1930, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She is survived by her two daughters; Brenda (Reno) Rizzuto, Shelly (Calvin) Gammelseter, one son; Peter (Angie) Filipionek. Eight Grandchildren; Troy, Tammy, David, Lisa, Tasha, Tyler, Chantal and Brittany. Eight Great-Grandchildren; Brandon, Cassidy, Joshua, Tatum, Skyler, Emma, Quinn and Alena.

She will be greatly missed by her close friends Marg Buikema as well as Linda Walker and her daughter Caroline.

She was predeceased by her first husband Ignacy Filipionek and her second husband Lawrence Himmelman., also her parents Johnnie and Annie Gobin and brothers Walter, Graham and sister Sheila.

She was born in Tynemouth, Cramlington Northumberland England. She met and later married the love of her life Igancy in Choppington, Northumberland England on August 30th 1947. Every Sunday she shared her love of the sea with her husband and children. In search of a better life, Peggy and her family immigrated to Canada in March 1957. A few years later Shelly was born.

Peggy first worked as a housekeeper, then at the Bay and finally with the Calgary Catholic School board where she worked for more than 25 years before she retired.

Weekends were spent camping at Sylvan Lake or in the mountains of Banff National park. She loved to fish and boating was a favorite past time. Other times would find her relaxing with a cup of Red Rose tea and good book. Later in life she enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino. The love of travel would always bring her back to the ocean that she dearly loved. She was fortunate enough to have gone on many trips to the sea. Whether it was the Pacific, Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico she had to feel the waves wash over her feet and the salt air on her face. Every time we see the ocean we will think of her.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Stassen and Dr. Louw of the Santauri hospice for the kindness and care they provided during this trying time.

Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 7 p.m., and Funeral Service on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home 1605 - 100th Street S.E.
