<div itemprop="description">GUZIK, Mary (Baba)<br />March 10, 1932 - February 25, 2016<br /><br />Mom passed away at the Bethany Care Centre on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the age of 83 years with her dear friend Vivian Williams at her side.<br /><br />Mary Guzik was born March 10, 1932 to Steve and Marie Gromnisky of the Woodlight district. She was the 2nd youngest of 10 children.<br /> <br />On September 4, 1965 she married John Guzik. They made their home in Calgary, Alberta, raising their four children.<br /><br />Before her stroke, Mom was an active person. She loved 5-pin bowling, couponing, going to the casino, playing cards, her pets, attending the Marlborough Seniors club and spending time with family. What gave Mom the most pleasure was attending events of her grandchildren. She loved to attend soccer or lacrosse games and marching bands events. If there was a school event such as a school play, Mom would be there. Mom was an excellent cook. No-one turned down a meal of perogies or traditional Ukrainian Christmas dinner.<br /><br />Mom was predeceased by her husband John Guzik in 2000, her father Steve in 1971, her mother Marie in 1996, her brothers Tony in 1944, Allan in 1997, Mike in 2006, John in 2008, Sister Lila 2013, Sister Evelyn in 2013 and brother Ladie in infancy.<br /> <br />Mom will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Monica (Ken) Pivarnyik, Marlene (Darcy) Griffin, Michael (Arlene) and Melvin. Baba also leaves behind her treasured and precious grandchildren Dustin, Chelsey (Tim) Morden, Jerrod, Mitchell, Dakota, Alyssa and Sarah. Mom is also survived by sisters Elsie Gordon of Vancouver, Isabel Monea of Edmonton, and Anne Sopel of Sturgis.<br /> Auntie Mary also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.<br /><br />A Visitation will take place prior to Mass at St. Mark&rsquo;s Catholic Church on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 9:30 am.<br /><br />Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Mark&rsquo;s Catholic Church, 5552 Madigan Drive NE with Graveside Service and reception to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home (1605-100 Street SE, Calgary). <br /><br />Thank you to the Bethany Care Centre and Mom&rsquo;s dear friend Vivian Williams, for such compassionate and respectful care and friendship to our Mom.<br /><br />In lieu of flowers, please donate in Mary&rsquo;s name to the Bethany Care Foundation, www.bethanycarefoundation.com or mail to 1001 &ndash; 17 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2N 2E5, envelope marked &quot;building renovations for the benefit of future residents, staff and visitors&quot; or charity of choice.<br /> <br /><br /> <br /><br /></div>
