<div itemprop="description">Percy Edmund (Ed) Hewitt, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2016 at the age of 93 years.&nbsp; <br> <br>Ed is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth (nee Schafer), his daughter Marlene (Rick) Turner; grandsons Todd (Kelly) and their children Bennett and Avery; Cameron (Christina) and their children Evan, Lauryn and Maya; brother Jim (Rae); sister-in-law Ida Barnett. <br> <br>Born in Hyde, Cheshire, England on June 11, 1923.&nbsp; He immigrated to Canada in 1926 landing at Pier 21.&nbsp; They travelled across Canada and settled in Calgary on June 29, 1929.&nbsp; He enlisted in the Canadian army on&nbsp;June 20, 1941 and was placed in the 95 Battery, 15th&nbsp;Field Regiment, Canadian Artillery.&nbsp; He was part of the operation at Juno Beach on D-Day. Upon returning to Canada on&nbsp;January 15,&nbsp;1946, he resettled in Calgary, where he met his future wife Elizabeth.&nbsp; He worked for CP Rail as a machinist helper in the Alyth yard for over 30 years. <br> <br>Ed was a family man, who was always willing to lend a helping hand.&nbsp; He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 264 and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, gardening, cruises, dancing, spending time with his beloved grandsons and their families, and telling everyone about his five great grandchildren. <br> <br>He will be dearly missed by family and friends.&nbsp; <br> <br>Thanks to Newport Harbor Care Centre staff for their kindness and care. <br> <br>A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 100 Street SE Calgary, AB) on&nbsp;Tuesday, November 22, 2016&nbsp;at&nbsp;10:00 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; <br> <br>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calgary Poppy Fund & Veteran’s Food Bank or Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. <br> <br> <br></div>
