HERINGER, Wilfred Walter

The family of Wilfred Walter Heringer are sad to announce the passing of their Uncle Wilf in Calgary on April 22, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Wilfred was born October 5, 1925 and raised in Medicine Hat, AB. As a young man, he moved to Calgary and was employed by Calgary Co-operators and Chesney Hardware before starting his own business, Calgary Centre Paints, in the North Hill Shopping Centre on 16th Avenue. He married Mildred Hallam in 1950 and they lived in the Capital Hill district in NW Calgary until retiring to the Statesman Manor in 2008. After Mil passed away, Wilf lived at the Edgemont Senior Lodge and then the Beverly Glenmore Care Centre. Wilf was a member of the North Hill Rotary Club, Rosedale and St. David’s United Churches, singing in the choir for both churches. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Calgary Stampeders, Flames and Blue Jays. He enjoyed watching curling, boxing and his favourite teams on TV.

Wilf and Mil were a very active couple. They golfed, curled, bowled and camped for many years at both Radium and Tall Timber Resort at Sundre. Travellers they were, around North America visiting family and friends, spending a few winters in the sunny south in Arizona and also enjoying trips to Hawaii, Australia and Great Britain with good friends and family. Wilf and Mil were members of the KIK Seniors Group in Irricana, a very active group that enjoyed touring, theatre, games and sporting activities. Wilf was so very proud of his family, his brothers and sisters, his nieces and nephews and their families.

He is predeceased by his parents John and Caroline Heringer, his brothers and sisters Ray, Oscar, Sid, Clarence, Annie, Clarice, Irene, Ruth and Mirium. He has missed his best friend and wife of 61 years, Mildred, since 2011.

We would like to thank a special person, Barbara Cadman, who has been Wilf’s care companion for the past six years. We appreciate all you have done to help with his care, keeping him happy and safe these past years with your compassion.

Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605-100 Street SE, Calgary) on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Wilf will be laid to rest beside his beloved Mildred in the Garden of The Old Rugged Cross at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

To express condolences, please visit www.mountainviewmemorial.ca
