This is the day Leon accepted that the battle he fought so hard for these past four years is over. He passed away with a smile on his face in the presence of his beloved wife, Paulina van der Valk and the apple of his eye son Jason Vaniersel.
Leon was a devoted teacher with the Calgary Catholic School District for 43 years.
He leaves behind his wife Paulina, his sons, Jason (Julie) and Justin (Kayleigh); and grandchildren Jackson, Noelle and Cole; daughter Leanne Stocks and family; siblings John, Frank (Bobbie), Marilyn Nahirney (Eugene); Marjorie Smeets (Perry); brothers in- law; Bob Savage; Roelof van der Valk (Jetta); in- laws ; Paula Linting; Roel van der Valk (Rini).
He was predeceased by his sister Connie Savage and his parents Jack and Francisca.
A Celebration of Leon’s Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 100 Street SE, Calgary, AB). on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers we will have a basket for donations for the Dulcina Hospice. To express condolences please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca
