OFSTAD, Lillian
May 23, 1932 ~ May 29, 2015

Lillian Ofstad, beloved wife of Theodor Ofstad of Calgary, passed away at Wentworth Manor on May 29, 2015 at the age of 83 years.

She was the loving mother of Lisbeth Weis of Calgary and will be dearly missed by her two grandchildren Brit and Daniel Weis. Lillian will also be lovingly remembered by family in Seattle, WA and her surviving family members in Norway. She was predeceased by her parents Helga and Adolf Bårli and her brother Gunnar and sister Reidun.

She was born in Askim, Norway and immigrated to Calgary in 1954. Lillian spent many years as a hair stylist and then started the Norseman Ski Shop with her husband and daughter in 1972 where she worked until her retirement. Many friends and customers would stop by the Norseman for coffee on Saturday morning knowing that her fresh baking would also be there. She was known for her giving personality. Lillian wanted to share her love of X-country skiing and one day decided to go to the CNIB and see if she could recruit volunteers who would like to learn the sport. She changed a few lives that day and relentlessly recruited Norseman Ski Club members and the City of Calgary Parks Department to help with the program. Lillian received the Alberta Achievement Award presented by our Premier for her efforts. She also received the Norwegian King Olav’s Metal for promoting Norwegian products. Lillian will always be remembered for her generous heart and beautiful smile.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scandinavian Center (739 - 20 Avenue NW) on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

To express condolences, please visit: www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.
